March 8-14 is National Groundwater Awareness Week in the Unites States, a cause Choose Rain supports 100 percent!
From the article “Rainwater or the Aquifer – Quite the Conundrum” from Choose Rain Founder Larry Curran, “Rainwater sustains our life on earth. Without it, we would quickly perish. If rain is an ever-flowing faucet, the aquifer must then be our temporary bowl. We in the USA have become pigs. We are short-sighted, constantly abusing and using our aquifers to sustain our growing population supporting instant gratification, waste and irreverence. Like the pig, we wallow in our self-indulgence while polluting the groundwater and sucking the aquifer dry. Many are like ducks using the aquifer when it suits us because it is readily available, showing indifference when challenged to conserve. Our actions will ultimately kill the fish which needs fresh water to survive. The fish is all-in but dependent on the Pig and the Duck.
Well into it’s second decade, The National Ground Water Association is the best source online for everything you need to know about groundwater, how we can protect it, what you can do to help, and more. They are committed to saving groundwater, and spreading the knowledge people need to know in order to preserve as much of it as possible. and we are on their side!
From NGWA.org: “Groundwater is essential to the health and well-being of humanity and the environment. Whether you’re on a public water system or a private well, whether you are a health care official, policymaker, regulator, an environmentalist or a groundwater professional, you can get involved in protecting this vital resource.”
This year’s National Groundwater Awareness Week precedes the National Groundwater Summit in San Antonia Texas that kicks off on the 16th, so for all the latest news keep an eye on the NGWA Twitter page linked below, and the hashtag #GWAwarenessWeek… and challenge yourself to conserve more water all year long!
